"One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and Nature shall not be broken."
- Leo Tolstoy
The Ground-up Initiative (GUI) is founded to bridge the disconnect that modern society creates between people, their communities and the environment. It believes investing in the culture of people is key to shaping the future of our ever-changing, demanding, fast-paced modern world. It cultivates a space to nurture rootedness and resilience of people by allowing them to experience groundedness, hard work and connection.
Towards our shared future
GUI is currently fundraising to build towards the vision of being a new model for urban sustainable living, a Kampung Kampus.
Commemoration Ceremony during SGBC Gala Dinner 2016
A meaningful ceremony was held during the SGBC Gala Dinner 2016 on 6 September 2016 to cement SGBC's commitment to the Ground Up Initiative. In lieu of door gifts for the Dinner, SGBC will contribute a mural made of recycled glass to the Kampung Kampus compound.
During the Dinner, Mr Chia Ngiang Hong, President of SGBC, and Mr Tay Lai Hock, Founder of GUI, commemorated this collaboration by tightening the bolts on a small scale replica of the glass mural. This replica will be displayed in the headquarters building of Kampong Kampus, which is well on its way to becoming a zero energy building with Green Mark Platinum certification thanks to the support rendered by the following SGBC Member Companies:
- AGC Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
- Big Ass Fans Singapore Pte Ltd
- Building System & Diagnostic Pte Ltd
- Joe Green Pte Ltd
- Mitsubishi Electric Asia Pte Ltd
- Narada Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
