[CPD Event] SGBC Webinar: Understanding the Living Building Challenge & WELL Certification

Certification remains one of the most direct and transparent ways to shape a green and low-carbon built environment. Green building rating tools transform the market by providing a framework for assessing building environmental performance and integrating sustainable development into building and construction processes. They provide a useful framework to define and elevate corporate real estate priorities, as well as for the development of market mechanisms and government policies. With the growing development of green building certifications that address specific domains, having the necessary knowledge and awareness of key schemes will add value to the credentials of any green building professional. In this SGBC Webinar, learn about the Living Building Challenge certification programme by the Institute of Living Future, with an emphasis on the Petal certification pathway. The session will also feature an overview of the WELL certification scheme from the International WELL Building Institute, exploring its features and benefits as well as its implications on human health and building design. The webinar will be rounded up by Prof. Lam Khee Poh, Dean of the NUS School of Design and Environment, who will provide valuable insights on how - and why - the National University of Singapore (NUS) has meaningfully incorporated elements from the Living Building Challenge and WELL certification in the SDE micro-campus project. [CPD Event] SGBC-SPM Webinar - Green Switch: Financing Renewable Energy Integrations

KV The demand for renewable and clean energy is burgeoning with more new building projects as well as existing building retrofits adopting decarbonisation as a key objective and project outcome.  As global demand for renewable energy grows faster than anticipated, a swathe of technologies have emerged on the horizon to help projects transit to greener, cleaner forms of energy. While renewable energy projects can be costly and complex, green financing - with its emphasis on sustainability-linked metrics – is able to help catalyse renewable energy integrations towards enhanced built environment sustainability. In this webinar jointly conducted by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Society of Project Managers Singapore (SPM), and supported by HSBC Singapore, find out how green financing can support renewable energy integrations. HSBC will give an overview of harnessing green financing for renewable energy integrations, followed by a sharing by clean energy company Mainstream Renewable Power on achieving a low carbon global economy and the key elements for success, before Surbana Jurong outlines the process of incorporating renewable energy into a building project and illustrate how green financing is sought.

[CPD Event] SGBC RGB Webinar Series: Learning from the Transformation of the Australian Built Environment

RGB A  In 2020, the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) reported that more than 3.5 billion square metres of green building space have been certified by green building rating tools administered by GBCs, an incredible rise of 1,000 percent from 2010 levels. These sustainability-centric schemes and programmes are pivotal to the transformation of the built environment, encouraging and accelerating the design, construction and operation of greener buildings. The SGBC Regional Green Building Webinar Series aims to help industry professionals learn more about the various green building standards in the region and how they have helped to transform the built environment in their respective countries. The first session will shine the spotlight on the unique context and green efforts of Australia and its built environment sector, which has been consistently ranked among the top global leaders in sustainability. Often referred to as ‘the lucky country’, Australia is often recognised for its abundant natural resources, favourable weather and good-natured people. With the impact of climate change, however, it could be seen through a much different lens. Floods, fires and droughts are common and the impacts are significant and far-reaching. As a result, there is strong conscious recognition that more needs to be done to predict and prepare for these impacts. This extends to the Australian property market where industry leaders have worked together to create and support a common vision for a sustainable property market in Australia. Hear from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) and Frasers Property Industrial as they discuss the state of the sustainable property movement in Australia and how the Green Star has been evolving to meet the needs of the Australian property sector. With the increasing onus on sustainability, building product transparency has started to gain global traction. Changes in consumer expectations, building certification systems, international laws and standards are finally beginning to converge on standardised corporate reporting on environmental, social and health impacts. Many in the design and manufacturing communities are developing ways to easily communicate this information through what is often called a nutrition label for building products. An environmental product declaration, or EPD, is a voluntary declaration of a product’s life-cycle impact and are used for a wide variety of purposes such as green procurement, green building rating programmes and designing for the environment (ecodesign).

[Important] Deferment of Renewal Requirements for SGBC-GMAPs (2020/2021)

FB logo Deferment of renewal requirements for Singapore Green Mark Professional Qualification Scheme for year of practice 2020/21 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a key requirement of the SGBC Green Mark Professional Qualification Scheme to ensure that Green Mark Accredited Professionals (GMAPs) continue to maintain knowledge and skills aligned with current industry and regulatory developments. All qualifications under the SGBC Green Mark Professional Qualification Scheme require annual renewal. Renewal of qualifications is granted only upon the fulfilment of requisite CPD points for the respective qualification. For more information on the SGBC Green Mark Professional Qualification Scheme, please visit the Frequently Asked Questions. Change in 2020 Renewal Requirements for Green Mark Professional Qualifications expiring 30 June 2020 In view of the current COVID-19 situation and cancellation of most CPD events, the renewal of Green Mark Professional Qualifications that are expiring on 30 June 2020 will be deferred by 1 year to 30 June 2021. Renewal fees for 2020 will also consequently be waived. To qualify for the deferment, GMAPs are required to complete the following actions: Update personal profile, academic qualification, career history and competencies by 31 May 2020. Update CPD activities that have been undertaken in the current CPD year as the points will be brought forward to the next year. CPD activities include completed Green Mark projects, relevant Masters degree/ Doctorate programmes, research publications, seminars and courses. CPD points that have been earned in current CPD accumulation period (01 June 2019 – 31 May 2020) will be carried forward in full to the next CPD accumulation period (01 June 2020 – 31 May 2021). All GMAPs are required to log in to the SGBC-GMAP portal and update profile details by 31 May 2020, failing which the account will be made dormant and deactivated. For a guide on updating CPD activities, click here. Continuation of CPD Events (with control measures) and Shift to e-Learning Platforms SGBC continues to seek avenues for GMAPs to continue their professional development. Seating capacities for physical seminars will be scaled-down to take into account social distancing recommendations and refreshments will be served individually. SGBC’s CPD programmes are in the midst of being shifted to online platforms and more information will be provided in due course. As an added option for professional development, GMAPs may enrol in e-learning programmes offered by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) as SGBC has reciprocal CPD arrangements with GBCA. CPD points awarded by GBCA will be recognised in full by SGBC’s Green Mark Professional Qualification Scheme. Reciprocal arrangements are being made progressively with other GBCs and further information will be provided when arrangements have been finalised. For more information on enrolling in GBCA's e-learning programmes and upload of CPD points, click here.
