Advance, Connect & Engage

As the warning call of climate change becomes increasingly unmistakable, collective effort is needed to drive affirmative climate action. Businesses, institutions, individuals - all hands must be on deck for the voice of advocacy to be heard and acted upon. Essentially, going green must become the new business as usual.

The Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) crossed the ten-year milestone in 2019, marking a decade of advancing green building knowledge and sustainability expertise in the built environment. We have run the gamut of industry-specific programmes and sector-oriented initiatives, ranging from certification programmes, networking events to public engagement and cognizance thrusts. While our role has evolved over the years to now cover the full spectrum of sustainability in the built environment, one thing remains constant: our tireless resolve to shift mindsets and actions towards greater environmental sustainability for the betterment of the current generation and beyond. With the support of like-minded organisations and passionate individuals, SGBC will continue to help advance, connect and engage the building and construction industry to drive environmental sustainability.

Preparing for the New Business As Usual

2020 has been an unprecedented year fraught with extraordinary challenges and unexpected developments across the globe. The year, however, also bore testament to the adaptability and ingenuity of the built environment, overcoming myriad issues to emerge stronger. As the industry moves into the uncharted waters of a very different business-as-usual, SGBC stands ready to guide and support your organisation to a greener, more sustainable future. With Member contributions from across the entire building and construction value chain, SGBC membership has grown into a living hub of green building expertise and opportunities. Staying on the pulse of the industry, our programmes, initiatives and activities are helping SGBC Members stay current, relevant and prepared for an increasingly challenging world.

While the global pandemic has paused many of our conventional activities, SGBC was able to successfully pivot most – if not all – of our programmes to a digital nature. Since March 2020, SGBC has partnered with like-minded SGBC Members to curate and deliver more than 20 SGBC Webinar sessions that have reached out to upwards of 5,000 participants from the industry and beyond. Using audience engagement tools and interactive pools, SGBC Webinars are very well-received by the industry, with participants citing the conducive nature of the webinar format and the fact that learning can now take place anywhere with an internet connection. Our courses are also now delivered completely online, allowing Members and their staff members to easily gain the knowledge and expertise required to emerge stronger.

In 2021 and beyond, SGBC will ramp up capability-building initiatives to include more intensive webinars, short courses to keenly develop specific skillsets, as well as targeted solution introduction sessions for industry stakeholders to stay cognizant of trends and developments. SGBC will be developing and rolling out programmes focused around the following key areas:

  1. Climate Action: Advancing Net Zero
  2. Resources & Circularity
  3. Health & Well-Being
  4. Green Building Drivers
